Maritime English for Marine Engineers II builds upon the structured foundation of its predecessor and advances the linguistic and technical competencies required in modern maritime operations. This publication follows the first comprehensive Maritime English textbook in the literature, tailored to marine engineers, while also offering content for other maritime disciplines, including naval architecture, ship management, maritime business administration, marine transportation management engineering, and marine technology engineering. Expanding beyond the operational level of the first book, this volume is intended for the management level, extending to advanced linguistic structures and complex operational scenarios, ensuring relevance for both academic and professional contexts.
Developed in alignment with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention and the Seafarers and Marine Pilots Training and Examination Directive, the book integrates advanced grammar topics such as complex sentences, advanced conditional forms, reported speech, causative verbs, and relative clauses with authentic shipboard applications. These include maintenance reporting, ship inspections, MARPOL compliance, SOLAS requirements, engine failure analysis, and other critical processes. Structured around a 14-week program, it covers technical domains from planned maintenance systems and engine room performance reports to formal and informal shipboard communication. Each chapter combines grammatical explanations, industry-relevant vocabulary, realistic dialogues, reading passages, and targeted exercises, enabling learners to navigate operational documentation and professional exchanges with confidence.
